A
Gala "Evening of Chance" for The Wellness Community
Saturday,
November 17, 2001
This
year The Wellness Community gala will be an entirely
different affair. Gala co-chairs Cindy Gruber, Toby
Roover and Gloria Ross are creating a Monte Carlo
casino in the Grand Ballroom of the Fairmont Copley
Plaza Hotel. Guests can try their luck at the various
gaming tables including craps, blackjack and roulette.
Professional dealers will teach the novices and
entertain the players, while helping raise funds
for TWC! Throughout the evening guests will dine
on a superb gourmet dinner buffet and dance to their
hearts' delight to the Urban Renewal Band.
There
will be fabulous raffle items and this year guests
can choose which specific raffle they would like
to take a chance on. Continuing the theme of "taking
a chance," mystery grab bags will offer opportunities
to win trips, gift certificates to stores and upscale
restaurants. Of course the gala would not be complete
without an exciting LIVE auction, hosted by Kim
Carrigan, WBZ TV News Anchor and Charlie Austin.
It will be a limited but very special event with
highlights including an elegant Chopard watch donated
by Arlene and Roberta Fine Jewelry, a trip to Malliouhana
on Anguilla and unusual sports items donated by
The Boston Red Sox.
Mark
your calendar now and get ready to play your lucky
number on November 17th!
Save the Date!
On Thursday, April 11, 2002, The Wellness Community and the New Repertory Theatre will produce a one woman show,
My Left Breast at The Copley Theatre. Written by OBIE award winning playwright Susan Miller, My Left Breast is an autobiographical account of the playwright's struggle with cancer and with the challenges of everyday life. The Boston Globe's Patti Hartigan has described My Left Breast as "a tale of personal loss and a spiritual journey that ends in redemption and rebirth." This is an event you won't want to miss! Watch for further details.

Guest
host Natalie Jacobson, WCVB-TV5 News Anchor, introduced
a brief video about each honoree. As each honoree
accepted the In the Spirit of Wellness award, he
or she spoke about why they work with cancer patients
and support the work of The Wellness Community.
These remarks ranged from George Cloutier's humorous
advice that we should all "Give until it hurts!"
to Hester Hill Schnipper's request that "everyone
in this room who has ever heard those life changing
words 'You have cancer' please stand with us. You
are my heroes and my benediction. To you. L'chaim.
To life."

Golfers Play "Fore" a Good Cause!
A
beautiful day, a terrific golf course and a group
of energetic and competitive golfers…the perfect
mix for The Wellness Community's 2001 golf tournament.
The tournament, held this year at Waverly Oaks Golf
Course in Plymouth, Massachusetts was the perfect
blend of light banter and serious play. While no
one hit a hole-in-one to drive away the prize Lexus,
several golfers were heard to mutter, "Wait until
next year!" org.
Co-chairs
Scott Seidman and Bruce Berger ran a well organized
day, while never losing sight of the fact that fun
and fundraising were the purpose of the event. A
crew of enthusiastic Wellness Community volunteers
spent the day registering golfers, distributing
snacks and cold water and supervising the raffles
and contests that are an important part of the tournament.

The
Rome Marathon
Just imagine running or walking through this
beautiful and ancient city in Italy. The 26.2
miles of the City of Rome Marathon, commonly
referred to as a "Stroll Through Rome",
is set on a breathtaking path passing all
the tourist sites of the Eternal City. The
loop course starts near the Colosseum and
passes many spectacular sites such as Piazza
Venezia, the Roman Forum, the Fontana di Trevi
and the Vatican.
Your

As you begin this personal challenge, your
inspiration is knowing that your commitment
will support participants at The Wellness
Community as they face their own personal
challenge of living with cancer. You can participate
in honor or memory of someone you know who
has been touched by cancer, or we can partner
you with a cancer patient who would be honored

If you are a cancer survivor, participate
