Striding to Arizona

The next Wellness Community Strides for Hope marathon is scheduled for January 15, 2006 in Phoenix. The P.F. Chang Rock 'n' Roll Marathon offers full and half marathon routes for runners and walkers. Find out more at www.rnraz.com.

Wellness Communities from around the country will be sending teams and we'd like you to join us. As a member of Strides for Hope, you receive a complete travel package, personalized fundraising assistance and professional training advice. Team training sessions begin in September.

Our Vancouver experience this spring was exhilarating and inspiring. We stretched our limits, made new friends and raised over $55,000. We hope you will consider taking part in this unique and rewarding opportunity. If a mid-winter trip to Arizona for a good cause appeals to you, call Richard or Leah at 617-332-1919.

Dragon Boat Racing Reflections...

After weeks of practice and preparation, a group of 27 energized cancer survivors were ready to “slay the dragon!” Inspired by coach (and cancer survivor) Peter Lew, these women filled their boat and rowed with all the spirit and determination they could muster. Some are currently undergoing chemo-therapy, others are thrilled to feel the breeze blowing through their recently regrown locks. All are facing a deeply personal battle, but joined together on the Charles River to participate in the 25th annual Dragon Boat Festival on July 13th to compete....and to WIN!

“I can't express enough the wonderful experience I had. Just being around a great group of women and knowing what we all went through and to see the zest of LIFE we all have. To be able to take a negative and make it into a positive is truly a gift. And then to be able to put a boat together with a bunch of women who never paddled a Dragon Boat and race against the younger crowd and loses by a 1/2 a second; that is some powerful stuff. It was so wonderful to be a part of such an incredible group of women plus our fearless leader, Peter! It was with great pride that Trina and I accepted the First and Second Place trophies for the Cancer Survivor Division.”

Inspired by their accomplishments, the team continues with weekly practices and will compete in other Dragon Boat Festivals around the country. If you are interested in participating in The Wellness Community Dragon Boat Team, please contact Harriet Berman at (617) 332-1919.
